New Conference Launched in Southeast: National Social Media Conference

by David K. on Apr.11, 2009, under Faith

I’m excited to meet all the folks at the conference, hopefully more of the people who read and comment here will make it to the event.  I’m excited to see some of the folks from the Tweetups who normally don’t do much more than drink.

ATLANTA—Mountain Social, a Southeastern Social Media group, announced today it will host the first, multi-day social media summit, bringing together regional thought leaders and practitioners to share case studies, ideas and best practices in an open forum.

Scheduled for September 11-13, 2009, the 2009 Mountain Social Media Summit is the foremost event to be held in the Southeast for marketers, bloggers and others interested in better understanding and leveraging the value of social media. Social media experts and conference attendees will gather at the Unicoi Lodge and Conference Center in Helen, Georgia to discuss the 4Ps of Social Media: Personas, Problems, Projects and Profits.

Designed to be highly interactive and participatory, the conference will feature a number of keynote addresses, roundtable discussions and breakout sessions. Speakers will include several local and national social media experts, including Chris Carfi, Sarah Dopp, Sherry Heyl, Mark Resch, Stephen Smith, Robert Sutton and Michelle Vandepas. Participants are invited to bring their family and friends to the weekend event which will also include a full menu of seasonal, outdoor and sightseeing activities for them to enjoy.

“As more and more businesses and individuals engage in social media, key questions are being asked about its value – why is it important, what are the challenges and how can it increase customer acquisition, reduce costs and improve market awareness? With that, there’s a high-level of interest in quality events that bring together experts and practitioners in an interactive, learning and fun environment to discuss these issues. The Southeast area is hungry for events such as this that provide real value and enable participants to gain actionable insight from real use cases.” said Jon Gatrell, Co-founder of Mountain Social.

Registration cost for the event ranges from $495 to $595 with discounts available for bookings made before June 30, 2009.  Registration will include access to all sessions, sponsor events, and meals.  For more information please visit www.mountainsocial.com.  Registrations can be made at mountainsocial.eventbrite.com.

Access, Sharing & Engaging Your Inner Social Leader: mtnsocial09

by David K. on Mar.22, 2009, under Faith

Mountain Social 2009 is looking for a speaker to fill the first slot, so I thought I would submit the following abstract for consideration:

Social Media not only is a way to develop consumer oriented relationships, but also to share ideas and gather folks around causes, concepts and shared interests.  This session will focus on developing a discussion around the persona’s which drive a given sites readership and community development.  3 key things will be examined in this discussion based on several key projects and examples:

  • Personas can make or break a blog, so then why do folks like mashable, copyblogger and problogger become so successful? Content and Creativity.
  • Problems exist in every media channel, social media is not different.  How does social media acknowledge the challenges in the space?
  • Profits are key to any initiative, but is that why most people blog?

This session provides an open forum to share ideas and provides examples of where people/personas tackled problems and either did or didn’t achieve profits.

Religion vs. Spiritualism

by David K. on Feb.05, 2009, under Faith, Follow, Foul

This seems to always be a discussion. The take on religious people versus spiritual is a little polar in this pitch, so it has to be somewhere in the middle, but in fairness of showing all sides I bring this presentation. I think you can reconcile religion and spirituality for what it is worth.
