“Mormon” is essentially a nickname for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).They believe in, hope in, rejoice in, and testify of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World. Mormons attest to the validity of the Bible and modern-day revelation and have a core belief in the importance of eternal families. They recognize the Book of Mormon as another testimony of Jesus Christ. Mormons are Christians. Their devout way of life caused them great persecutions by the ruffians that lived on the western borders of Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan. They have no fixed creed; as they believe revelation from God is the fountain of knowledge. The Bible testifies that when God stops speaking to man it is due to sin and disbelief. They assert that Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in 1820 with the express purpose of restoring His Church and gospel in its purity and fulness to the earth. Mormons represent the fourth largest religious denomination in the United States.

Pursuit of salvation should be the subject of greatest concern. Jesus is to return very soon, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thess. 1:8) The Bible tells that most people on the earth will soon be destroyed by fire, pestilence, and plagues more horrible than the mind can imagine. It also provides the only escape from this desolation; often called Armageddon.

What Role Does Jesus Play?

The Living Christ, an inspired proclamation for the world written by modern-day apostles and a living prophet, reveals what members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe about Jesus Christ. He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3).

Family Matters

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ believe that the family unit is fundamental and eternal. Marriage between worthy individuals is intended by the Lord to be forever by virtue of a sealing ordinance in holy temples. Modern-day apostles and a living prophet have issued a The Family: A Proclamation to the World, declaring our beliefs about the nature of families, gender, parenting, and marriage.

Conditional Love?

by David K. on Apr.14, 2009, under Faith, Fear, Follow, Thought

The WC Fields saying/quote of “I love Jesus, but I hate his followers” is an interesting reality. I know this might not be the exact quote and it may be someone else, but we continue to look at our religion as the only way. Is what I believe the only way to believe?

Please Note: This does have some not so good language.

What is Stigmata and is it contagious?

by David K. on Mar.23, 2009, under Faith, Fear

Of course Stigmata is NOT contagious, unless your really religious, bumped into a yet to named saint who blessed you or you are in fact yourself a saint.

Stigmata (or the Crucifixion Complex) in the religious sense are the wounds of Christ appearing on the hands, feet and body of an individual, usually a Christian, but to be Christian is not a requisite for the appearance of stigmata. Sometimes the wounds are ulcerated wounds and at other times they are bleeding wounds. Essentially Bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus.

There are many recorded cases of stigmata occurring throughout history with the first recorded case being that of St Francis of Assissi in 1224. It is interesting to note that many of the people who exhibit these wounds are often fervently religious people and quite a number of them became sainted by the Catholic Church. The stigmata is, in effect, an imitation of Christ and it can occur by a pious obsession with the crucifixion and the suffering of Christ – a form of living martyrdom?

Or as Karen stated on her blog: “Stigmata is when Jesus gets his, you know, business all over you.”

WWJD? Indeed What Would Jesus Do?

by David K. on Mar.07, 2009, under Follow

The good news is typically the right thing, which most of us don’t do. So how did all those bracelets and the concept become such a part of pop culture?

How did it Start?

What Would Jesus Do??” all started with a youth group from the Calvary Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan. As a reminder of how to best remember Jesus, they had simple cloth bracelets made that used the abbreviation, WWJD. The bracelets caught the attention of friends, classmates, parents, and town’s people. Soon, almost everyone was wearing one of these bracelets. As their popularity grew, the bracelets were mass-marketed in plastic.

These kids just wanted a reminder. So they asked this question because their lives had been transformed by what Jesus taught and did about 2,000 years ago. They desired to influence their community by living their lives the way Christ taught. They wanted to give their faith a tangible connection to their everyday lives.
