“Mormon” is essentially a nickname for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).They believe in, hope in, rejoice in, and testify of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World. Mormons attest to the validity of the Bible and modern-day revelation and have a core belief in the importance of eternal families. They recognize the Book of Mormon as another testimony of Jesus Christ. Mormons are Christians. Their devout way of life caused them great persecutions by the ruffians that lived on the western borders of Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan. They have no fixed creed; as they believe revelation from God is the fountain of knowledge. The Bible testifies that when God stops speaking to man it is due to sin and disbelief. They assert that Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in 1820 with the express purpose of restoring His Church and gospel in its purity and fulness to the earth. Mormons represent the fourth largest religious denomination in the United States.
Pursuit of salvation should be the subject of greatest concern. Jesus is to return very soon, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thess. 1:8) The Bible tells that most people on the earth will soon be destroyed by fire, pestilence, and plagues more horrible than the mind can imagine. It also provides the only escape from this desolation; often called Armageddon.
What Role Does Jesus Play?
The Living Christ, an inspired proclamation for the world written by modern-day apostles and a living prophet, reveals what members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe about Jesus Christ. He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3).
Family Matters
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ believe that the family unit is fundamental and eternal. Marriage between worthy individuals is intended by the Lord to be forever by virtue of a sealing ordinance in holy temples. Modern-day apostles and a living prophet have issued a The Family: A Proclamation to the World, declaring our beliefs about the nature of families, gender, parenting, and marriage.
