Mayan Concept for May, oops December 2012

by David K. on May.11, 2009, under Foretell

There is bunch of stuff out there about the Mayan – architects, astronomers, artisans and time keepers.  What do I mean about time keepers?  Well they calculated the duration of a year when most folks couldn’t even fathom what a year was or that the Earth actually revolved around the Sun.  These calculations were more precise than any Greek or philosopher ever contemplated. They could even predict eclipses, which is fairly advanced as well.

Not only were they scientists, they were sorta mystics/astrologist/future tellers who predicted when their civilization would be overrun by foreigners sailing in from other lands. They predicted world wars and other stuff, Nastrodamus of the Mesoamerica, I guess you could say. So What’s up with the 2012 thing?

The facts are they never really predicted ANYTHING about 2012. Of course if the Spaniards would have left some books we might have more to go on, but they were notoriously anti-book people I guess, burning just about everything.  There were some scripture left, but not that many.  If the book left were the only one that existed it would be one heck of a library check out system and waiting list.

In many ways 2012 basically is an open question. So with no real prediction from the Mayans on why the calendar ends on 12/20/2012 other folks are stepping in to give us there opinions.  So what ideas are out there?

  • New Age: The day the inner cosmos is connected to the divine outer cosmos
  • Cults: Things are going to end, so you might as well join our group and give us your money
  • Doom People: This stuff is going to end and end big, apolcolyptic big.

So in the abscense of writings, folks are just making stuff up, but if you think about some of the core Mayan believes of time, mainly that it is circular if might just mean we start over in a different cycle.  There are several great cycles:

  • First Cycle Ends with a big Jaguar eating everyone
  • The Second ends in Air
  • The Third Cycle in Fire – Think big asteroid?
  • The Fourth in Flood – Ice age retreats and Covers earth with Water?
  • The Fifth in Earthquakes – Where we are arguably now

The earthquake think is speculative, but this is what some scholars think.  What ever you think is your own choice, but this just might not be anything of note, just another day.

What are the Four Horseman?

by David K. on May.06, 2009, under Fear, Foretell, Foul

Apocalypse
Image by Rich Man via Flickr

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the Book of Revelation. They will ride when the seven seals are opened, resulting death and destruction on a vast scale. The four horsemen who will ride are Death, War, Famine and Pestilence The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse are described in Revelation chapter 6, verses 1-8. The four horsemen are symbolic descriptions of different events which will take place in the end times. They are essentially a sign of things to come.

The first horseman of the apocalypse is cited in Revelation 6:2, “I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.” This first horseman likely refers to the antichrist, who will be given authority and will conquer all who oppose him. The antichrist is the false imitator of the true Christ, as He will return on a white horse (Revelation 19:11-16).

The second horseman of the apocalypse from Revelation 6:4, “Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.” The second horseman refers to terrible wars.

The 3rd horseman as referenced in Revelation 6:5-6, “…and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, ‘A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!’” The third horseman of the apocalypse refers to a great famine.

The fourth horseman from Revelation 6:8, “I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.” The fourth horseman of the apocalypse is symbolic of death and devastation. It seems to be a combination of the previous horsemen. The fourth horseman of the apocalypse will bring further warfare and terrible famines along with awful plagues and diseases.

Fairly scary stuff.

An incomplete list of Hindu Gods and Godesses

by David K. on Apr.26, 2009, under Faith, Follow, Foretell, Global

Trimurti of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva
Image via Wikipedia

Vamana

Vamana is the fifth incarnation of Vishnu, born as a dwarf into the household of a Brahmin priest.

Vamana tricked the demon king Bali to grant him as much of his empire as he could measure in 3 steps. With the first step he covered all of Earth. With the second step he covered all the heavens and while doing that Brahma washed his feet in his kamandula or water pot. Out of that pot, Ganga was born. With the third step, Vamana pushed Bali back to the underworld or Patala Loka.

Dhumavati

Dhumavati is the smoky form of Shakti. She is also known as the eternal widow, the Shakti without Shiva. She is ugly and also called Alakshmi, the one who is without lakshmi or radiance (see Lakshmi).

Dhumavati is the Divine Mother at the time of the deluge, when the Earth is under water. While being ugly and fearsome, she is blessing with her right hand those who can still see the Divine Mother in her. The black crow on her flag is the symbol of dark forces and black magic.

Dhumavati is one of the ten Mahavidyas – the others are Kali, Tara, Shodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta and Matangi, Kamala and Bagla Mukhi. The Mahavidyas represent some or other incarnation or manifestation of the Divine Mother. They are in this sense also to be regarded as Vidyas or different approaches to (tantric) knowledge.

Kali

Kali is a ferocious form of the Divine Mother, who sent her Shakti, the Mother Gauri, to free the gods from the dominion of the demonic forces Shumbh and Nishumbh, who had conquered the 3 worlds of earth, the astral plane and the celestial plane.

Kali is the goddess of time and of the transformation that is death (Kala). Lord Shiva and Mother Gauri in their destructive form are known as Mahakala and Mahakali or Kali.

Kali is the Kundalini energy that paralyses the attachments produced by the solar and lunar currents (both demons mentioned above). This attachment causes fear of death. In the ignorant ones she creates fear, while for others Kali removes the avidya (ignorance) that makes us fear death, the basic insecurity of the First Chakra , a fear rooted in the brain stem or primitive brain.

Krishna

Krishna is the eight incarnation of lord Vishnu and was born in the Dvarpara Yuga as the “dark one”. Krishna is the embodiment of love and divine joy, that destroys all pain and sin. Krishna is the protector of sacred utterances and cows. Krishna is a trickster and lover, an instigator of all forms of knowledge and born to establish the religion of love.

Kurma

Kurma (or the Koorm Avatar) is the second, turtoise-incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

At the Churning of the Ocean, the Mount Mandara that was used as a churning stick, began to sink into the soft ocean bed. This caused Vishnu to assume the form of the turtoise-avatar, diving to the bottom where his back became a pivot for the churning stick.

Vishnu

In the basic Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the Hindu god Vishnu is the preserver and protector of creation. Vishnu is the embodiment of mercy and goodness, the self-existent, all-pervading power that preserves the universe and maintains the cosmic order Dharma.

The Kurma incarnation also represents the stage in the development of life, when the ability to breathe air and walk out of the water developed. The turtle is also the symbol of perseverance.

Krishna was born as the 8th child of Devaki, sister of the cruel demon king Kamsa. The sage Narada had predicted that Kamsa would be killed by his nephew, so the king killed Devaki´s first six children.

Brahma

Within the hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, Brahma is the creator, Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the destroyer. Nevertheless, Brahma grew in a lotus out of the navel of the sleeping Vishnu. The daily alternation of light and dark is attributed to the activity of Brahma.

Brahma’s mind born sons are the seers Marici, Atri, Angiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratuj, Pracetas, Vashishta, Bhrgu and Narada. From Brahma’s body came his nine sons Daksa, Dharma, Kama, Anger, Greed, Delusion (Maya), Lust, Joy, Death and Bharata and one daughter called Angaja.

Shiva

Shiva is the destroyer of the world, following Brahma the creator and Vishnu the preserver, after which Brahma again creates the world and so on. Shiva is responsible for change both in the form of death and destruction and in the positive sense of the shedding of old habits. In Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram or Truth, Goodness and Beauty, Shiva also represents the most essential goodness.

Shiva is the god of the yogis, self-controlled and celibate, while at the same time a lover of his spouse (shakti). Shiva’s first wife was Sati and his second wife was Parvati, also known as Uma, Gauri, Durga, Kali and Shakti. His sons are Ganesha and Kartikeya. Shiva lives on Mount Kailasa in the Himalayas.

Shiva’s main attributes are the trident that represents the three gunas and the snakes that show he is beyond the power of death and poison and also stand for the Kundalini energy. The vehicle of Shiva is the white bull called Nandi (the joyful). He is often seated on a tiger skin or wears a tiger skin, with the tiger representing the mind.

Shiva & Parvati dancing in the Himalayas – Click for a larger imageShiva has many forms, which are visible in his Panchavaktra form with 5 heads, a combination of all Shiva energies : Aghora (resides in the creamation grounds), Ishana (most often appears as the shivalingam), Tat Purusha (meditating), Varna Deva (the eternal Shiva) and Saddyojat or Braddha Rudra (the old wrathful form). The last also forms the connection to the Rudraksha mala – a rosary made of the dried fruits of the Rudraksha tree.

What is the Rapture? Set me free and take me home

by David K. on Apr.11, 2009, under Foretell, Future

What is The Rapture?

The Second Coming of Christ will occur in stages. First, He will remove all Christians from the Earth, to protect them. This is called “The Rapture.” The term comes from the Latin verb raptare, and the Greek word harpizo, both meaning “to be caught up” or “to be snatched up.” Jesus will “snatch us” out of harm’s way.

Most Christians believe in the Rapture and the Tribulation, which will be followed by a 1000 years of Christ reigning together with the resurrected saints.

Christians who do not believe in the Rapture and the Millennial Kingdom are referred to as “amillennialists”. They believe that mankind will simply become better and better through the efforts of the Church, and when mankind becomes holy enough Christ will return.

After The Rapture, God will begin executing judgments against unbelievers, during a period called the Tribulation. At the end of the Tribulation all nations will attack Israel, and Jesus Christ will physically return, leading the armies of heaven. At the Battle of Armageddon they will destroy everyone who is not a believer. Then Satan will be bound, and Jesus will set up the Millennial Kingdom, headquartered in Jerusalem. Jesus and the saints will rule over the nations of the Earth for a 1000 years. During this period there will be people born who are not loyal to Christ.

The prophesy continues that a large group will take up arms against the Lord and be defeated. Then, Christ will judge all who have ever lived, giving rewards to some and punishment to others. Those who were “destroyed” will be cast into the Lake of Fire, i.e., Hell. After that, God will destroy heaven and Earth because they have been polluted by sin. He will create a new heaven and a new Earth, put those who were saved on the new Earth, and rule it forever.
