What is Reiki? Get the energy

Is it a religion? A life force? Just what is reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxing and reducing stress. It is even said to promote healing. “Rei” means “God’s wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki” means “life force energy.”
Basically, reiki is spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki was first brought into the spotlight by Dr. Mikao Usui in the mid- to late-1800s.
According to The International Center for Reiki Training, Usui believed in “one practice (using) certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.”
A reiki treatment is pretty straightforward. So you relax on a massage table or other flat surface while the practitioner holds his/her hands on or above the client’s body. The energy flows where needed, often creating a warm sensation.
